Curtis J. Hill enlistment record

Scope and Content

This collection consists of an enlistment document declaring Curtis J. Hill's intent to enlist as a soldier in the army of the State of Georgia for a period of three years. The document is signed by the commanding officer of the 1st Georgia Regulars, Captain William J. Magill, and includes Hill's mark (in lieu of signature) and physical description.

Cyclorama Restoration, Inc. records

Scope and Content

This collection contains all the records available from the Cyclorama Restoration project. These consist of the following: a copy of the conveyance of the painting to the city of Atlanta, the establishment of the charter and by-laws, Board of Directors, minutes of meetings, and financial records. There is also a record of correspondence, news clippings, and an alphabetical listing of the contributors to the renovation project.

D. C. Colley funeral invitation

Scope and Content

The collection contains a hand written funeral invitation for Lieutenant D. C. Colley who served in Company G, 61st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. According to Mr. Colley's great-niece the invitation was shown door-to-door on a silver plate by a servant.

D. M. Russell Civil War letter

Scope and Content This collection consists of a letter written by Russell to his mother about a recent battle, likely one of the Seven Days Battles in Virginia. Russell mentions that he was wounded during the fighting and his company was particularly hard hit. He lists the names of four dead soldiers and those badly injured, observing that of the twenty-five men in his company only three escaped injury. He tells his mother that he was injured near the end of the battle when the fortifications were captured...

D. W. Speers letters

This collection contains a letter to D. W. Speers from James Longstreet about an invitation to meet General E. K. Smith at the Speers home but he is unable to attend due to feeble health. Another letter is about the payment of a sum of money to the Herring Safe Company to build a vault.

Images in Ben Hill include the business district, the First Baptist Church, and the Ben Hill Recreation Center. A photograph of the Hammond School in Sandy Springs is also included.

Of particular note is a bill of sale for enslaved people in Muscogee County, Georgia; a list of enslaved people with ages and brief descriptions; and correspondence relating to land transactions on the part of William A. and Daniel McDougald.

Scope and Content This collection primarily consists of scrapbooks containing photos, letters, and poems written by Daniel Whitehead Hicky. Most of the letters in the scrapbooks are addressed to his friend Emily Alexander Coart (1922-1996). In his letters, Hicky wrote about his eating habits and his physical weight, the difficulties he faced in publishing his work, and the 1960 presidential election.
