Elizabeth W. Barnett herbarium

This collection contains a bound herbarium embossed with "Flora Alpina" on the cover. The herbarium is inscribed "Mary L. Wilson from Marion Hill, 1889." Hill was a family relation of Barnett. Also a part of the herbarium is correspondence and two labeled envelopes with seeds from the Rocky Mountains. The specimens pressed within the herbarium are identified with botanical names and typically grow in alpine climates.

This collection includes a leather bound wedding souvenir album for the marriage ceremony between Ella Thomas Foreacre and Archibald Philip Brantley on October 3, 1888 in Atlanta, Georgia. The souvenir album includes the names of the best man, maid of honor and several guests. The album also includes a narrative description of their honeymoon travels, photographs of the bride and groom, and their home on 142 Peachtree Street, and a few letters from relatives.

This collection consists of portraits of members of the Ellet, Cabell, and Hopkins families. The portrait of Mary Virginia Ellet Cabell (VIS 29.8) was produced by Marcus Aurelius Root (1808-1888), a well-known daguerreian, who worked primarily in Philadelphia and New York. Some of the albumen cards were produced by Linnie Condon, a late nineteenth century female photographer working in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ellis Gibbs Arnall lecture
