Atlanta's Woman of the Year photographs
Scope and Contents
This collection contains photographs of Atlanta's Woman of the Year awardees, sponsors, and committee chairs for each year. Of particular note is a photograph of Atlanta's Woman of the Year founder, Charles H. Jagels, in 1943, as well as photographs of Mayors William B. Hartsfield (1890-1971) and Ivan Allen Jr. (1911-2003) with Woman of the Year awardees. Among the hundreds of women selected for Woman of the Year, notable awardees include Leila Denmark (1898-2012) in 1953, Ruth Blair (1889-1974) in 1955, Dorothy Alexander (1904-1986) in 1947, and Lousie Allen (1917-2008).

Biographical / Historical
Founded by Charles H. Jagels (1902-1984) in 1943, Atlanta's Woman of the Year Organization is a non-profit civic group whose purpose is to recognize distinguished achievements of women in metropolitan Atlanta. Award categories for Atlanta's Woman of the Year awards include Arts, Business, Civil Service, Social welfare, Education, Professions; select years also included the categories War Effort and Civic Affairs. Additional historical information about Atlanta's Woman of the Year Organization has not been determined.
