In rarer cases, maps illustrate settlement patterns according to race; infrastructure additions such as sewers, sidewalks, paved streets and water mains; trackless trolleys, bus lines, and rapid transit routes; zoning; house numbering; census tracts; land lots and district numbering; land use; population density; public housing locations; annexation patterns; topographical features and locations of proposed interstates.
