Abbie M. Brooks diaries and church invitation

Scope and Content This collection contains two diaries of Abigail M. Brooks, which date from 1865 and 1870 along with typed transcriptions of both. In addition, there is an invitation to attend church which dates from 1858. In the 1865 diary, Brooks describes life in rural Tennessee, near Nashville, where she teaches in a one room school house. Adelaide Ruff McCarty Photographs

This collection is comprised of images of the early development of Ansley Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The photographs were taken by an unidentified photographer. Mr. Solon Zachery Ruff, who was the development’s civil engineer, can be seen, along with images of the home of Amos Rhodes (now Rhodes Hall). Mr Ruff is identified as “papa” on some of the images. One of the images is of an auction of lots in Ansley Park.

Agatha Sheehan photographs

The collection contains images of former enslaved people and elderly African Americans who lived at the E.R. Carter Home for the Elderly. Named in honor of Reverend Edward Randolph Carter (1856-1944), the pastor spearheaded an extensive housing ministry and directed the construction of a home for the aged, which was operated by Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The home was later demolished.
