Scope and Contents This series contains vital, financial, and court records from Campbell County before it merged with Fulton County in 1931. Departments documented include the Sheriff's office, Court of Ordinary, and Inferior Court. The bulk of the records are annual return books and minute books. SGM Carl L. Sharp papers

This collection contains one letter and envelope addressed to Sharp’s commanding officer, Captain Richard M. Barb, commending Sharp and his comrades for assisting the Atlanta Police Department with the investigation of the Jewish Temple bombing on October 12, 1958. It also contains a short biographical note on Sharp outlining his military career as well as correspondence between the AHC and Sharp's family.

Shaler Hillyer papers

This collection consists of correspondence from and to Shaler Hillyer. Also included is his journal, along with Captain John Freeman's estate inventory and the journals of Marian (also spelled Marion) Jean Hillyer, a descendant of Shaler Hillyer's, as a young girl documenting various trips her family took in the 1880s and 1890s.

This collection contains autobiographic and biographic materials on Sidney Root as well as transcriptions of letters and newspaper articles written by Root. Materials include the manuscripts for Root's unpublished autobiography, Memorandum of My Life and genealogy papers on the Root family. Of particular note is a manuscript of a biography of Root by Walter McElreath, one of the founders of the Atlanta Historical Society.

Thomas Deaton papers

This collection contains Thomas Deaton's financial, legal, and personal papers, the bulk of which pertain to the Civil War. Financial records include deeds of purchase for land and enslaved persons, as well as affidavits of sales. Also included is a diary he wrote while working at a Confederate hospital in which he recorded personal notes, information about meetings, records of the weather, and copied obituaries. Correspondence documents Deaton’s sale of grain to the Confederate Army.

Thomas M. Coleman letter

Scope and Content This collection is comprised of one letter written by Coleman to his sister, possibly named Lizzie Coleman, on July 29, 1864, written from a “camp south of Atlanta.” Coleman provides a firsthand account of the Atlanta Campaign describing the charge and repulsion of the "rebels," the reclaiming of lost artillery pieces, and capture of Confederate soldiers.
