The sale took place on the first of January, 1859, and was filed with the Sumter County court on 18 June 1859. This collection contains one handwritten "slave deed" from Sumter County, Georgia. The deed states that Josiah Scrutchin bequeathed a woman named Lettice and her child to his son, Samuel Scrutchin. The collection also includes a short Scrutchin genealogy recorded by Josiah Scrutchin's descendant, Elaine Tyler of Atlanta, Georgia.
