John A. Berry Civil War papers

This collection consists of a bill of sale for the Emeline plantation and slaves both sold to Maxwell R. Berry; a two dollar bill issued by the Planter's Bank of the State of Georgia; a military pass into Atlanta, Georgia; and John A. Berry's oath of allegiance to the United States.

Promissory note and scrapbook

Scope and Content This collection contains a promissory note to pay John Boutwell the sum of $80.00 for the service of a "negro slave named Reubin" in 1852. The transaction was executed by Harold & Murray on 177 Broad Street. The state in which the transaction occurred has not been determined. The note was found inside a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings on various Civil War battles, short stories and poetry, probably published in the 1860's.
