Plaster and Smith families photographs
Scope and Contents
This collection contains photographs of members of the Plaster and Smith families. Photographs show Plaster family members gathered for family reunions, Emma Plaster (1905-1987) at school with her classmates, and a group portrait of young women, including Tullie Smith (1886-1967), titled “The Four Smith Sisters.” Additional photographs include unidentified men, some wearing Confederate uniforms, unidentified Girl Scouts, and an unidentified residence. Of special note are photographs of the Rock Spring School that include building locations and the school’s history.

Biographical / Historical
Emma Smith Plaster (1867-1951) was born to James Washington Smith (1827-1874) and Emily Wynne Smith (1830-1883) in Fulton County, Georgia. She married Frank A. Plaster (1867-1938) in 1890 and the couple had six children: Daniel Liddell Plaster (1892-1955), Mary Smith Plaster (1894-1895), James Wilson Plaster (1896-1962), Sarah Plaster Brown (1899-1963), Nellie Plaster (1902-1917), and Emma Plaster (1905-1987). Daniel Liddell Plaster married Kathleen DeMille Plaster (1890-1991) and the couple had one son, Daniel Plaster Jr. (1929- ). Emma Smith Plaster is buried in Rock Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery along with other members of the Plaster and Smith families. Emma and Frank were members of the Plaster, Smith, Collier, and Steele families, one of the first settlers of Fulton and DeKalb counties in Georgia. Frank A. Plaster was the great-grandson of Benjamin Plaster (1780-1836), who owned over 1,000 acres of land in the Atlanta area on which Rock Spring School was built in 1835.
