Administrative/Biographical History
The Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars was organized October 26, 1988, in Atlanta, Georgia, by Mrs. Lawrence Avery. The first states organizing were Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma. By 1995 there were fourteen organized states and growing membership in North America. Membership in the Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars is limited to female descendants, eighteen years old or older. The descendants of native and/or immigrant Americans who participated in any capacity in actual hostilities against each other, or in any passive activity with each other are eligible. The object of the society is: to preserve the records and historic sites associated with the native and immigrant Americans who waged ware in defense of their people's freedom, liberty, and ideals; to strengthen the ties of fraternal fellowship and encourage cooperation between descendants of native and immigrant Americans; and to foster a spirit of patriotism and continued support and enforcement for all treaties and laws made and agreed upon between the state and federal governments and the several tribes, bands, and nations of Native Americans.
