Scope and Content
This collection contains patents, diagrams, papers, and correspondence related to inventions by Harry W. Ligon between 1908 and 1930. These papers include petitions and patents with accompanying diagrams for cotton ginning machines and related valves. Also included is a petition for a game or amusement device.

Administrative/Biographical History
Harry Wister Ligon (1882-1970) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Daniel Wister Ligon (1848-1917) and Zephora Elizabeth Yancy (1851-1920), the youngest of their four children. He may have attended The Georgia School of Technology; and although he submitted his draft card for WWI, he never served. On May 12, 1901, Lignon married Ruth Summers (1878-1962) of Newman, Georgia, and they had three children. In 1910 Ligon was listed as working as a machinist in a Gin Shop, in 1920 as a machinist for the railroad, in 1930 as the superintendent of a bakery manufacturer, and in In 1940 and 1950 as a Machinery Designer at a Paper Factory. Ligon, his wife, and his parents are buried in Westview Cemetery.
