The collection contains the proposal and construction specifications for the J. P. Allen & Company store building located at 215 Peachtree Street NE in Atlanta, Georgia. The index documents the general conditions, heating, plumbing, and electrical work of the building, as well as other aspects in the construction process. Two addenda provide a list of changes and omissions to the original plans.

Administrative/Biographical History
James Pleasant Allen (1876?-1956) founded J. P. Allen & Company, a women's department store, in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1908. The company's flagship building, designed by the Morgan, Dillon & Lewis architectural firm, was located at 215 Peachtree Street NE on the corner of Peachtree Street and Cain Street. Construction of the building began in 1926 and the store opened in 1928. In 1982, Charming Shoppes, Inc purchased and incorporated the company. Additional historical information about J. P. Allen & Company has not been determined.
