 File — Box: 1, Folder: 2

Scope and Content

From the Series:

This series consists of pedigree charts compiled by Arthur Pryor Strother, Jr. and to a lesser extent Arthur Pryor Strother, Sr.. They contain geneaological information about the Strother line and other related families. The Strothers compiled geneaological information in pedigree charts in multiple ways. Some pedigree charts are organized under a family surname, such as Thornton, Browning, Culpepper, and Strother. Other pedigree charts are organized according to census dates, country, or an alphabetical listing of surnames. Information in the pedigree charts includes marriages, birth and death dates, and a listing of children according to family surname. The Strothers developed a coding system consisting of letters and numbers that appear throughout the records in the series. They used the numbers 1, 2, and 3 which represent William Strother's (ca. 1630-1702) three sons. The letters reflect the number of children the sons had. For instance, if the first son had 5 children, they would be represented as 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, and 1E. The numbers were used to match up specific descendents of the Strother line to a particular offspring of William Strother. The Strothers complied these pedigree charts in pursuit of thier avocation of tracing the Strother family line.
