This collection contains a wide variety of technical manuals, operation logs, and repair guides. These were designed to assist engineers in diagnosing and correcting problems on the Southern Railway locomotives of the 1940s and 1950s. Other articles include newspaper clippings and magazines on the history of Southern Railway, personnel rosters, train schedules, and some of Stein's personal papers.
Mathews and Joor family papers
This collection consists of personal letters from Ann (Mathews) Joor, the daughter of John Mathews, about the death of "Edward" and from William Joor about a troublesome slave. There are receipts from William Joor and Jonathan Cooper about the transfer of the slave from Savannah, Georgia, to Charleston, South Carolina. Also included are business letters between John Mathews and his cousin, Optimus Hughes, about the sale of James Island.

This collection contains a manuscript titled "Living with Love, 1896-1985: An Autobiography by Mildred Calhoun Wick (Great Granddaughter of John C. Calhoun)." The manuscript was published under the title Living with Love in 1986 by Serendipity Press.
