This collection contains business documents from the J. M. Alexander & Company hardware store. Materials include structural agreements; purchases made by Julia Touro Alexander; and client orders. Also included in the collection is correspondence from Frank Reagan, the company's treasurer, and company receipts. There is also a ledger of tenants recorded by R. B. Mitchell from the early 1890s. The relation of this document to the J. M. Alexander & Company has not been established.

Also a part of the collection is correspondence between Lewis and his cousin Jack Steely, a realtor in St. Petersburg, Florida, regarding property ownership. This collection contains photographs taken by F & L Photo Service and collected by Robert Rothberg of various downtown Atlanta buildings and businesses in the early 1930s. Notable scenes include the Alonzo F. Herndon (1858-1927) Crystal Palace barber shop on Peachtree Street, the Hurt Building, the J. P. Allen & Company department store, Chevrolet Motor Company, Moline Plow Company, King Hardware Company, and the Henry Grady Hotel.
