Administrative/Biographical History
The Northridge Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1949 to "promote love and understanding of gardening and flower arranging among amateurs, to learn about our native trees, flowers and shrubs and their care, and also to aid in the beautification of our community." The club was governed by elected officers such as president, vice president, and treasurer. The club was a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., the Fulton County Federation of Garden Clubs, the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc., and the Atlanta Junior Flower Show Association. The club had several civic projects such as planting and care of the grounds of the Sarah Smith Elementary School, care of the green space on the corner of Peachtree Road and Wieuca Road, and landscaping the liberty isles at the Swan House of the Atlanta Historical Society (now known as the Atlanta History Center). The club supported many other organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Egleston Children's Hospital, and the Garden Therapy program at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia.
