Administrative/Biographical History

Samuel C. Barnett (1850-1943) was born in Washington, Georgia, on September 30, 1850, to parents Samuel (1824-1896) and Elizabeth Anne Stone Barnett (1825-1906). Barnett attended Univerity of Georgia and began practicing law in 1881. He attained wide recognition as one of the foremost authorities on insurance law in Atlanta and the South. In 1887, he married Mary Jane Dunwoody ( -1889) who died shortly afterwards. Barnett's second marriage in 1898 was to Sarah Carter (1875-1945), daughter of Samuel MacDonald Carter and Sarah Jeter Carter. They had three children: Mary MacDonald (1899-1977), Elizabeth Wingfield (1901-1999), and Samuel C. (1905-1959).
