Administrative/Biographical History
Edward Rawson was secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1650 to 1686. Two of his descendants, William A. Rawson and Edward Rawson, moved from New England to southwest Georgia in 1839 or 1840, and to Atlanta in 1869. Edward Rawson had a daughter, Mary was married to Captain John D. Ray (Captain 1st Georgia Volunteers). Mary Rawson Ray kepa a diary during the battle of Atlanta and the later evacuation. William A. Rawson is buried in Oakland Cemetery. William A. Rawson had a grandson, William Rawson Collier. William Rawson Collier had a daughter, Julia Collier, who married Julian Harris, son of Joel Chandler Harris. Julian Harris was advertising manager for the Uncle Remus Home Magazine. He was also the editor and general manager of the Columbus Enquirer Sun. Julia Collier Harris was associate editor of the Columbus newspaper.
