Administrative/Biographical History

The Kirkwood Neighbors Organization (KNO), founded in 1993, is an association of residents and business owners in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. The organization's mission is to "promote the spirit of an intown neighborhood and a high quality of life for all residents of Kirkwood, regardless of race, age, religion, sexual orientation, or economic status." Participation is open to residents and business owners in the neighborhood, and the organization is run by volunteers, elected to be officers on a yearly basis. The organization's activities include publishing a monthly newsletter, hosting special events, and promoting Kirkwood as a residential neighborhood. KNO has been active with many issues in the Kirkwood community, including education, zoning, transportation, home renovations, public safety, and green space development. Special projects of KNO include streetscape improvement and zoning changes for the Hosea L. Williams Drive commercial district in Kirkwood and coordinating opposition to MARTA heavy rail expansion along the South DeKalb-Lindbergh Corridor.
