Administrative/Biographical History
The Buckhead Men's Garden Club of Atlanta, Inc. was formed in 1960 with ninety-eight charter members. The club was organized for the "promotion and betterment of those engaged in agricultural and horticultural pursuits, including the improvement of horticultural and agricultural products through a system of awards, scientific research, and other allied horticultural pursuits." The club is governed by five elected officers including president and two vice presidents, along with a board of directors which meets regularly. The club holds monthly meetings and biannual plant sales of specimens grown in the club's greenhouse. The club's first greenhouse was on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center, (then known as the Atlanta Historical Society) from 1975 until 1986, when the club moved and built a greenhouse and garden center on the Lovett School property on Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta. In 1997 the club returned to the Atlanta History Center to operate a new greenhouse. Awards are given to club members annually for service and horticulture. The club is a member of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc.
