Administrative/Biographical History
The Peachtree Battle Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 1943 "to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, the study and culture of flowers, landscape gardening, protection of native trees, plants and birds, and the encouragement of civic planting." The club is organized under a constitution, by-laws, and is governed by a board of officers elected annually. The club is a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and affiliated with several other garden associations. The club has participated in and hosted numerous flower shows winning many awards. The club has supported the E. Rivers Elementary School with a grounds beautification project as well as the Buckhead business district with many green space plantings. The club has supported several other organizations such as the Florence Crittendon Home, Area #3 grounds of the Atlanta Board of Education at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue, Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, the American Red Cross, the Garden Therapy program at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia, and Home and Neighborhood Development Sponsors (HANDS).
