Administrative/Biographical History
Ivan Allen, Sr. was born in Dalton, Georgia on March 1, 1876, to Susan and Earnest Allen. H moved to Atlanta in 1895, and five years later helped form Fielder and Allen, an office supply company. In 1907, Allen married Irene Beaumont; the couple had a child, Ivan Junior in 1911. Allen was elected president of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce in 1917; and later headed the chamber's "Forward Atlanta" campaign to encourage businesses to establish offices in Atlanta. Allen was the treasurer of the Georgia Democratic Party in 1936, and he served as state chair for the president's campaign four years later.
