Scope and Content
This collection contains a ration book and a cookbook using Swans Down flour, How to Bake by the Ration Book. The ration book belonged to Margaret C. Howell and has four pages of stamps remaining. The cookbook includes several different types of recipes that are low in sugar, shortening, and eggs.

Administrative/Biographical History
Margaret Louise Carr, of Durham, North Carolina, married Clark Howell (1894-1966) in 1923 and lived in Atlanta, Georgia. The couple had two children, Clark Jr. and William Barrett. Clark Howell, the son of Clark Howell (1863-1936), and the grandson of Captain Evan P. Howell (1839-1903), was publisher and president of the Atlanta Constitution from 1936-1960. He also served as the vice chairman of Atlanta Newspapers Inc.
