Administrative/Biographical History

Eugene M. Mitchell was born on October 13, 1866 in Atlanta, Georgia to Russell Crawford Mitchell and Deborah Margaret Sweet Mitchell. He attended Ivy Public School and Means High School in Atlanta and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1885 and received his law degree from the school in 1886, the same year he was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association. He was the organizer and president of that organization, and was also a member of the Young Men's Library Association, the Carnegie Library, the Atlanta Board of Education, Atlanta Historical Society, and Mitchell & Mitchell Law Firm. He was the father of novelist Margaret Mitchell.
