Scope and Contents
This collection contains volume 1, issue 4 of the Atlanta Gazette, which contains news for and about the local African American community. Of particular note are articles about the Milwaukee Braves’ potential move to Atlanta; Robert C. Weaver’s (1907-1997) confirmation as the first Black member of the United States Cabinet; national income and employment statistics about African Americans; and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee's (SNCC) use of the Black Panther Party emblem in Alabama’s elections. There are also recipes, horoscopes, illustrations, advertisements for Black-owned businesses, and a blurb promoting Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss (1863-1946).

Biographical / Historical
Atlanta Gazette, which began publication in 1966, was a bi-weekly periodical for African Americans that covered local and national news, politics, arts, and entertainment. Staff included director A. O. Wingfield, illustrator Charles Bowie, photographer Alfredo Odell, and writers Gerardo Mack Ebanks (1926-1992) and James W. Parker. Additional historical information about the Atlanta Gazette has not been determined.
