Administrative/Biographical History
The Student Aid Foundation was founded on November 17, 1908 by a group of Atlanta women interested in helping young women in Georgia to meet the costs of higher education. They were inspired by the Fulton County Educational and Loan Association which had been founded in 1892 "to promote the industrial and higher education of women...". The Foundation began as a committee of the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs, but in 1950 the Foundation formally separated from the parent organization and has worked independently since that date.
