Fulton County Juvenile Court annual reports
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of annual reports from the Fulton County Juvenile Court which record trends, fluctuations in deliquencies, and programs set up by the court. Publications also contain county statistics on juvenile court cases and debates about deliquency. Each annual starts with an introductory letter from that year's County Judge to introduce themselves and to provide an overview of statistics. The annual report from 1965 is of particular note because it is the first to contain desegregated statistics.

Biographical / Historical
The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice System (DJJ) established the Fulton County Juvenile Court in 1915. Headquartered in Avondale Estates, the agency oversees 22 correctional facilities and six development centers in Georgia, making it one of the largest in the Southeastern United States. Services it provides for those under 18 include appointment of guardians, delinquency proceedings, Juvenile educational advocacy services, mental health services, and more. The court is organized into three sections; Juvenile Court Administration, Juvenile Court Judiciary, and Probation Services. A Chief Presiding Judge, presiding judges, and associate judges monitor and conduct hearings. In 1971 and 1973, Georgia enacted a Juvenile Code that codified how the state identified and worked with juvenile offenders. The court has continued to evolve by making additions to the roles and oversight of lawyers, prosecuters, parents, guardians, and minors.
