This collection contains a proclamation signed by the Atlanta City Council on September 16, 2013 in honor of the 150th anniversary of the January 1, 1863 signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. It was signed by president of the Atlanta City Council President, Ceasar C. Mitchell (1968-), and fifteen other council members.

Biographical / Historical
This Atlanta City Council proclamation honors the anniversary of the day that President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared all persons enslaved in any state or designated part of a state in rebellion against the United States "thenceforward and forever free." This proclamation also honors the Atlanta History Center on the anniversary as "one of the largest history centers in the Southeast, has been instrumental in preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting African American history and culture."
