Scope and Content
This collection contains black and white photographs of construction scenes in downtown Atlanta by J.E. "Ned" Mellett Jr. They were submitted to the 1949 Atlanta Historical Society Historical Photographic Exhibition in partnership with the Dixie Camera Club under the category "construction." Additional photographs include scenes of Atlanta Zoo and activities such as tennis, baseball, and swimming in Piedmont Park, Grant Park, and Lakewood Park.

Administrative/Biographical History
J.E. "Ned" Mellett Jr. (1919-2008?) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Lutie Mellett (1900-1985) and J.E. Mellett Sr. (1889-1968), president of electrical contracting firm J.M. Clayton Company. Mellett Jr. was a corporal and aerial photographer in the United States Army during World War II. Additional biographical information about J.E. Mellet Jr. has not been determined.
