Scope and Content

This collection contains architectural drawings from residential designer William T. Baker. Items within the collection feature designs for residential properties; architectural details; artist renderings; marketing schematics; and model home plans. Projects are predominantly within Atlanta and its surrounding areas, a small number in Nashville, Tennessee; Florence and Greenville, South Carolina; Highlands, North Carolina, and the United States Virgin Islands. Within the collection are designs for Buckhead Atlanta’s condominium community The Borghese; multi-home communities in Vinings and Atlanta; and single home residences.

Administrative/Biographical History

William T. Baker (1956- ) is a residential designer and is the founder and principal of the Atlanta, Georgia, based firm William T. Baker and Associates. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on December 23rd, 1956, to parents William T. Baker Sr. (1908-1994) and Martha Baker (1921-2008). Baker's father was a nationally recognized furniture designer who taught him fundamental drawing at an early age. Baker graduated from Auburn University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science, and later obtained a Masters of Business Administration in finance from Emory University in 1982. William T. Baker and Associates established in 1985 and is an internationally recognized firm with projects in America, Asia, India and the Caribbean. Design projects include private residences, commercial projects, and historic renovations. Baker has been featured in numerous print and broadcast media outlets throughout his career. He also lectures and writes, with published works including New Classicists: American Architecture; Architectural Excellence in a Diverse World Culture; and volumes 1-3 of Great American Homes. Baker’s professional awards include the 1993 Arthur Ross Award for Architecture (New York City); the Urban Design Commission Award for Excellence (Atlanta) in 2005; and the Philip Trammell Shutze Award for Architecture (SE Chapter of the ICAA) in 2013. His professional affiliations and memberships are with the Institute of Classical Architecture (ICA); American Institute of Building Designers (AIBD); and the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAM). Baker served on the Georgia Executive Center Fine Arts Committee from 2005-2010, as well as on community boards and organizations dedicated to affordable housing.
