Scope and Content
This collection contains family histories, scrapbooks, clippings, and correspondence about the Hughs family. Of particular note are three manuscripts; Lucile Smith Hughs' “My Pot Pourri of Ninety Years" about the West End area of Atlanta; Albert S. Mead's “Five Hundred Miles A-Foot” chronicling his trip through the North Georgia mountains; and Mother Mary Monica's “Some Family Memories” about Antebellum Atlanta.

Administrative/Biographical History
Susanna M. Hughs (1910-1987) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Susie Flynn Hughs (1885-1962) and William D. Hughs (1875-?). Her maternal grandparents were Thomas F. Flynn (1860-1920) and Lillie A. Flynn (1861-1940), who were married in 1884. Thomas Flynn's father, John Hughs Flynn (1828-1884), was instrumental in the founding of the Atlanta Public School system. Susanna Hughs' paternal grandparents were John T. Hughs (1850-?) and Laurissa Hughs. Her father's brother, Robert Nathaniel Hughs (1868-1925), was married to Lucile Smith Hughs (1876-1974). Further biographical information about the Hughs family has not been determined.
