Administrative/Biographical History
The Criminal Court of Atlanta, Fulton County, was established to determine the innocence or guilt of a defendant for a crime committed within the boundaries of Fulton County, Georgia. The court was founded in 1856, in 1871 it became part of the City Court of Atlanta and oversaw trials not held at the Superior Courts, and in 1891 it became an independent court. Its name changed to the Criminal Court in 1935. The governor appointed judges who held their position for four years.
