Scope and Contents of the Records
The photographs in this collection were taken on June 19, 1908, the occasion of the running of the “Atlanta Chamber of Commerce Special,” the first regular passenger train of the Atlanta Division of the Atlanta, Birmingham, and Atlantic Railroad. The photographs were taken by Abananza Studios of Atlanta, Georgia.

Administrative/Biographical History
The Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic Railway was formed in 1905 to purchase the Atlantic and Birmingham Railway and extend its track into Birmingham. The AB and A Railway consolidated with the A and B Railway in April of 1906 to form the Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic Railroad. The company was reorganized under the name Atlanta, Birmingham and Coast Railroad in 1926.
