Administrative/Biographical History

Wachovia National Bank was founded in 1879 by James Alexander Grey (1846-1918) and William Lemly (1846-1928) in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1911, it merged with Wachovia Loan and Trust Company. In 1986, Wachovia purchased the First National Bank of Atlanta, and a year later they established a headquarters in the city. The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games assigned Wachovia the responsibility of staff management for the Centennial Park and Lake Lanier venues during the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 2008, Wells Fargo and Company acquired Wachovia and the last banks changed in 2011.
