Administrative/Biographical History
Eve Finkelstein Silver (1921-2009) was born in Jozefow, Poland, and studied at the University of Warsaw before the German invasion of Poland in 1939. In 1942, she escaped Nazi roundups of Jews in Southeastern Poland, assumed a false identity, and joined the Polish resistance. She moved to Salzburg, Austria, to work for the American government in 1945. After the war, Silver received a scholarship to attend Agnes Scott College and moved to Atlanta. Whilst studying there, she met Max Silver (1919-2005), who she married in 1948. They had three children: Leslie Silver Abrutyn (1949-), Herbert L. Silver (1956-), and David Silver (1953-). Eve Silver returned to school in 1964 and graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in journalism in 1968. She wrote for the Atlanta Constitution and the Atlanta Jewish Times.
