Scope and Content
This collection contains forty-six letters regarding the Civil War. Each accompanied by a typed transcription. Included are a sixteen page letter describing the Battle of Chancellorsville, a hand drawn pencil sketch of camp, and letters regarding the Atlanta Campaign, particularly the Battle of Peachtree Creek.

Administrative/Biographical History
William Jack was a sergeant with the 20th Connecticut Volunteers, 1st Division, 12th Army Corps. The regiment changed to the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division 20th Army Corps in June of 1864. Jack was from Thompsonville, Connecticut, and the letters he wrote were mailed to his family living there. Additional biographical information about William Jack has not been determined.
