James H. Elliott airplane papers
Scope and Content
This collection contains James H. Elliott, Sr.'s personal notes on his 1920 plane crash. It also contains newspaper clippings covering the crash, notes he made about the first hangar at the Atlanta Municipal Airport, a ticket from the J. H. Elliott Aeroplane Company, and a copy of The Air Line Pilot magazine from 1953.

Administrative/Biographical History
James Hardee Elliott, Sr. (1892-1975) was born in Conyers, Georgia, to Thomas Adolphus Elliott (1861-1927) and Fannie Lou Elliott (1863-1937). He attended the Georgia School of Technology, where he was in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was an amateur pilot and in 1920 crashed his plane in Atlanta. In 1922 he founded the J. H. Elliott Appraisals and Antiques Company, an antique shop on Peachtree Street. He married Jane Mae Webb Elliott (1894-1960) and they had one child, James Hardee Elliott, Jr. (1929-1998). James Elliott, Sr. was a member of the OX5 Aviation Pioneers, the Yaarab Temple in Atlanta, and the Atlanta Historical Society.
