Scope and Content

This collection contains a handwritten and a typed version of an essay written by John Littleton Jones for his graduation from a public high school in Newnan, Georgia, in 1895. In the essay, John discusses his hopes and fears for the twentieth century and contemplates the future applications of science, technology, and religion. He also predicts a prosperous future for the southeastern United States in which it is destined to become an industrial and commercial hub.

Administrative/Biographical History

John Littleton Jones (1878-1958) was born in Hogansville, Georgia, to Dr. Thomas Jefferson Jones (1849-1916) and Virginia Savannah "Jennie" Johnston (1854-1885). He was employed by the Railway Express Company. He married Frances Arnold Jones (1895-1979) and they had four children. Additional biographical information about John Littleton Jones has not been determined.
