Administrative/Biographical History

The Georgia Chrysanthemum Society was organized in 1953 to encourage horticulture and to increase general interest in the cultivation and improvement of the standard of excellence of the chrysanthemum. The society was a member of The Garden Club of Georgia and the National Chrysanthemum Society and was governed by elected officers such as president, vice-president, and treasurer. Charter members included Mrs. Oscar (Mary) Palmour, Mrs. Hinton (Nora) Blackshear, and Mrs. A. A. (Grace) Geiger. Annual flower shows offered members opportunity to display blooms and compete for awards. The society also held annual plant sales to promote and encourage growing varieties of chrysanthemums. In 2004 the society disbanded.
