Scope and Content
This collection contains one ledger sized address book and one accounting ledger having belonged to Henry Louis DeGive. The accounting ledger contains information on household expenses, taxes, bonds, dividends, and the estate of Laurent DeGive. The loose materials have been placed in a folder stored with the ledgers.

Administrative/Biographical History
Henry Louis DeGive (1868-1948) was the son of Laurent M. J. DeGive, owner and operator of the DeGive Opera House in Atlanta, Georgia, and Marie Eleonore Pauline Bemelmans. Born in West Virginia, at an early age the family moved to Atlanta, where Henry Louis DeGive grew up. He received a Bachelor's degree in Science in Civil Engineering in 1888 and a Master's degree at Columbia School of Mines in mining, metallurgy and chemistry. He returned to Atlanta after graduating and managed a chemical plant. At the death of his brother, Paul, he undertook the management of the family's theaters. He also served as executor of the estate of Laurent DeGive. He was married to Katherine Ransford, daughter of Henry Edward Ransford and Agnes Fitzgerald, of Clayton County, Georgia. They had five children.
