Administrative/Biographical History
William "Willie" Fort Williams (1853-1934) was born in Georgia to James Etheldred Williams (1826-1900), the Atlanta mayor from 1866-1868, and Sarah Elizabeth Lovejoy Williams (1833-1899). Williams was the oldest of eight children, his siblings were Etheldred "Claude" Williams (1856-1912), Thomas H. Williams, James Edward Williams (1860-1914), Martha Lovejoy Williams (1863-1929), Anne Elizabeth Williams (1867-1948), Mrs. E. A. Banker, Jr., and Samuel Copeland Williams (1873-1947). In 1864, following the evacuation of Atlanta during the Civil War, the family moved to Washington, Georgia. After the war, Williams and his family returned to Atlanta and he graduated from Atlanta High School in 1869. Later he worked as a teacher and in 1877 married Julia Marshall Blackburn (1857-1928). They had three children, James Etheldred Williams (1878-1879), Josephine Blackburn Williams (1887-1887), and Juliet Marshall Williams (1891-1905).
