Administrative/Biographical History
In 1845 the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention was established at the same time as the convention when it met in Augusta, Georgia. Its purpose was to train missionaries and employ them across the United States. Originally located in Marion, Alabama, it relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1882 and then again to Alpharetta, Georgia, in 1995. Two years later the Home Mission Board, the Brotherhood Commission, and the Radio and Television Commission merged to create the North American Mission Board.
