Administrative/Biographical History
The Military Order of the World War was founded by General John Joseph Pershing (1860-1948) in 1919 as a fraternity of American military officers who had served in World War I. The Atlanta branch of the Military Order of the World War was formed in 1936 and became the largest in the country by 1945. Upon American entrance into World War II, the Military Order of the World War pluralized its name, becoming the Military Order of the World Wars. Membership to the Order is open to all commissioned officers who served in any branch of the military. The Military Order of the World Wars remains an officer's society, recently welcoming officers who served in the Global War on Terror as well as in peacetime service.
