City of Atlanta Limelight Day proclamation
Scope and Content
This collection contains a proclamation by the Atlanta City Council announcing Monday, August 19, 1985 to be known as Limelight Day in Atlanta. Marvin S. Arrington, the president of the Atlanta City Council, and Robb Pitts, a council member, issued the proclamation in recognition of the club as a popular tourist attraction and the site of many charitable functions.

Administrative/Biographical History
Peter Gatien (1952- ) was the founder and manager of a chain of Euro-style nightclubs called the Limelight with locations in Florida, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and London. In 1980 he opened an Atlanta location at 3330 Piedmont Road. Gatien owned and operated the club for three years, after which his brother Maurice Gatien (1953- ) took over management until it closed in 1987. During the height of its popularity, the Limelight was known as the Studio 54 of the South and hosted events for Interview Magazine and artists such as Tina Turner, Andy Warhol, and Grace Jones.
