Boutwell Hudgins's oral history and written account of the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917
Scope and Content
This collection contains an oral history recording of Boutwell Hudgins's recollection of the 1917 Great Fire of Atlanta, which he survived while he was a student at the Atlanta Technological High School. There is also a handwritten account of the event that he wrote as well as copy written by his daughter, Leckey.

Administrative/Biographical History
Boutwell Hudgins (1899-2002) was born in Hudgins, Virginia, to Burton Boutwell Hudgins (1858-1944) and Mamie Leckey Hudgins (1868-1930). Boutwell graduated from Atlanta Technological High School in 1917 and then attended Georgia School of Technology. For a short time in 1918, he served as an apprentice seaman in the United States Naval unit at the Georgia School of Technology. After graduating, Boutwell worked as a civil engineer. He married Elsie Levi Jones (1902-1959), and the couple had five children: Frances E., Betty Lee, Dorothy Louise (1926-2000), Lilly B., and Alice Leckey (1930-2008).
