Administrative/Biographical History

Colonel William Lawson Peel (1849-1927) was born in Americus, Georgia to James Gamble Peel (1808-1879) and Elizabeth Stapleton Peel (1817-1881). In 1874, Peel married Lucy Marion Cook (1849-1923) and the couple moved to Atlanta two years later. Peel worked in banking and became president of Maddox-Rucker Banking Company, predecessor to the First National Bank of Georgia. Peel was also president of the Atlanta Music Festival Organization and was associated with numerous other civic and welfare organizations in Atlanta.
