Wendell Cannon Moore (1905-1991) was born in Ware, Georgia to Simpson Cortez Moore (1869-1918) and Josephine Estelle Roberts (1876-1969). Moore attended Howe Street Grammar School and Junior Central High School in Waycross, Georgia. He later graduated from an unidentified International correspondence school to study business administration and graduated in 1925. Moore began working for the Western Union Telegraph Company in 1923 as a telegraph operator in the Atlanta office. In 1951, Moore was promoted to district superintendent over the company's southern division. In 1958, he transferred to the branch in Nashville, Tennessee, and one year later was transferred back to Atlanta as the Division Operations Supervisor. Moore would divorce his first wife Caryl G. Brigham (1897-1986) in 1961. In 1963 he was promoted again to District Manager of the Jacksonville, Florida branch. In 1969, Moore would marry Grace Reece (1910-?), and the couple remained in Florida until his death.
