Scope and Content

This collection contains correspondence and Civil War research materials used by William R. Scaife. Correspondence is between Scaife and Jim Cripe of Illinois. Materials focus primarily on Colonel Daniel Cameron, a Union Brevet Brigadier General, and the infantry he oversaw, the 65th Illinois Regiment (also known as the "Scotch Regiment.")

Administrative/Biographical History

William R. Scaife (1927- ) was born in Thomasville, Georgia, to parents Allie Bradford Scaife (1895-1956) and Majorie Humbor Scaife (1896-?). Scaife is the author of several books on the American Civil War, most of them pertaining specifically to the Atlanta Campaign and the Civil War in Georgia. Selected titles include: The Chattahoochee River Line (1992), War in Georgia: A Study of Military Command and Strategy (1994), Joe Brown's Pets: The Georgia Militia, 1861-1865 (2004), and The Campaign for Atlanta (1993). Additional biographical information has not been determined.
