Administrative/Biographical History
The Colonial Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia, was organized in 1940 to stimulate among amateurs the knowledge and love of gardening, the study and culture of flowers, landscape gardening protection of native trees, plants and birds, and the arrangement of civic planting. It has not been determined if the club is extant or not. The club was governed by elected officers such as President, Vice President, and Treasurer. In 1941, the club became a member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and helped found the Junior Flower Show Association in the same year. The club supported the Henrietta Egleston Memorial Hospital with ward assistance and later landscaping of the grounds. They also supported other hospitals and organizations such as the Veterans Hospital, the Northside YMCA, and the Swan House at the Atlanta Historical Society (now the Atlanta History Center). The club hosted and participated in many flower shows, winning numerous awards.
