Administrative/Biographical History
The Town and Country Garden Club of Atlanta, Georgia was organized in 1949 as an outgrowth of the Sandy Springs Garden Club to "promote love and understanding of gardening and flower arranging, to aid in the protection of native trees, wildlife and birds, and to further the beautification of the community." The club was governed by a board of officers elected by members that included president, vice-president, and treasurer. The club was an active member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc., and the Fulton County Federation of Garden Clubs. The club's long term civic project was the landscaping of the Fulton County Sandy Springs Health Center. The club also participated in the larger HANDS (Home and Neighborhood Development Sponsors) Educational Horticulture and Science Gardening project with local elementary schools. The club also actively participated in and hosted flower shows, winning numerous awards. The club disbanded in 1980.
